About

The Full Story

Malaïka is a mezzo-soprano and composer. Incredibly passionate about art in service of activism, she collaborated with Dr. Mara Catherine Harvey, Switzerland & Europe CEO of VP Bank, to put her children’s book into a song about sustainable and ethical financial literacy. Additionally, her musical interpretation of the SDGs has been performed live for children from the African Diaspora in Montreal. It has also been used by Future Earth, Sustainability in the Digital Age, Sustainability in the Digital Age and the Canadian Science Policy Centre as a prelude to two events in a National Dialogue series funded by the Government of Canada’s Sustainable Development Goals Funding Program.

Musical projects include an original classical album, Painted Flowers, Call Me What I Become, a five-minute short film in collaboration with young animators worldwide celebrating Rwandan Baby Mountain Gorillas, The Tide is Strong, a piece for solo piano, and a pop song titled Sunrise. Malaïka has performed her original art songs with Hors Pairs Social, Small Fish, Page Rwanda, Pieces of Us, The Shed, Bagelshop Musicfest, and atelier academy.

She has also been heavily involved with the Univeristy of Ottawa’s opera productions, covering Hansel in Engelbert Humperdink’s Hansel and Gretel, Chorus of Sherperds, the Boar and Little Cupid in John Blow’s Venus and Adonis, Monteverdi’s Orfeo in the Orpheus Project, and the Mad Hatter is Will Tod’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Malaïka is currently preparing for her recital celebrating her album Painted Flowers, and the end of her bachelor's in classical singing and composition. She will be pursuing a Graduate Diploma of Music Performance in classical singing starting in September at the same institution.
